Industrial growth imperative for economic betterment: Omar
Tara Chand enumerates Jammu beautification plan

JAMMU, Apr 29: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today underlined the importance of close rapport between the State Government and various Chambers and Industrial Organizations to help boost industrial growth in the State and generate economic activities. "Both should work supplementary to each other to strive for sustained growth and development of trade and industries in the State", he said and stressed on regular interaction of various Chambers and Industrial Organizations with Government functionaries. Omar was addressing a function organized by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries here. The Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Finance Minister, A.R. Rather, Industries Minister, S. S. Slathia and Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul were present on the occasion. Omar advised the Chamber of Commerce to organize seminars, workshops and interaction sessions on various subjects relating to the growth and development of trade, industries and commerce to evolve strategies and recommendations for the progress of this sector.
The Chief Minister said that he is hopeful that Central Government would sanction special industrial package for Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of north-east states.
On the development of Jammu city, Chief Minister said besides various measures to remove the menace of traffic jams on city roads and address the problems of haphazard growth and encroachment, many measures are already afoot.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand enumerated the measures Housing Department is taking for decongestion and beautification of Jammu city.
He said that Government intends to construct a multi storey bus terminal and car parking facilities at the present bus stand on PPP mode and draft proposal for the same is being formulated. He said that steps have also been taken to encourage tourism in the city.
He said that industries and trade sectors are backbone of State's economy as such require focused attention for growth and progress.
The Minister for Finance, A.R.Rather in his speech explained various concessions State Government has provided for the betterment of industrial sector and upliftment of the trading community.
Rather said that Rs. 32 crore modern Toll Plaza at Samba will be commissioned within next 3 to 4 months while as work on Rs. 10 crore Toll complex at Nagri is on fast track.
The Minister for Industries, Surjit Singh Slathia said that Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is determined to strengthen and develop industrial sector in the State. The President, Chamber of Commerce, YV Sharma in his welcome address presented a charter of demands and made suggestions for development of trade and industry, decongestion of city roads, beautification of Jammu, tourism development, power and energy facilities.
