| SERC approves tariffs by 2010-11 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 30: Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Department filed petitions before the State Electricity Regulatory Commission for approval of Annual Revenue Requir-ement (ARR) and determination of tariff for financial years 2009-10 and 2010-11. The Commission examined in detail the tariff proposals of PDD and the projected costs for each for the items of the ARR. While deciding the tariff, the Commission has considered the responses received from various stakeholders and issues raised during the public hearings held at Jammu and Srinagar on March 13, 2010 and March 15, 2010 respectively. The JKPDD's gross ARR for financial year 2009-10 and financial year 2010-11 has been approved at Rs.2959.90 crore and Rs.2978.05 crore with a revenue gap of Rs.2163.67 crore and Rs.1891.75 crore respectively. The Commission is of the opinion that the worsening financial performance o the JKPDD can be improved firstly, through a focused loss reduction program in order to achieve prudent efficiency levels and secondly, through gradual increase in tariff levels to reflect prudent cost of supply. The Commission has approved tariffs for each consumer category in line with it approach to cost coverage and its tariff philosophy which have been dealt with in detail in the tariff order. Against the proposed overall increase of 62 percent in the retail tariffs, the Commission has approved an increase of nearly 12 percent with an impact on revenue of 14 percent. The approved tariffs for FY 2010-11 are summarized. Interested person may visit the Commission's website www.jkser.nic.in for detailed tariff order.
