| Lightning kills 100 goats, sheep in Banihal | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 1: Amid heavy downpour, lightning struck a meadow in the Tainka Top mountains of Banihal, about 250 km from here towards Kashmir, Friday as a result of which 100-odd goats and sheep were burnt to death while several others sustained burns. The families of Abdul Rashid Bakkarwal and his brother Mohammad Sharief were on` their way to higher reaches of Tainka Top when they were caught in heavy downpour. The rains were followed by lightning. Police said in the lightning, 47 goats, 12 sheep and over 40 lambs were burnt to death while at least 22 goats and sheep survived with severe burns. The two families, however, survived unhurt, the police added.A case in this connection stands registered at the Banihal police station. Police said revenue teams had been despatched to the spot to assess the loss suffered by the bakkarwal families
