| Gujjar-Pahari bond must for development: Bukhari | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT DARHAL, May 1: Expressing need for strong Gujjar-Pahari bond for development of Poonch and Rajouri regions, Chairman of Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum Syed Mushtaq Bukhari has said that both communities are lagging behind equally on all fronts and both must be treated equally. Addressing a rally organised by Pahari leader Mohammad Iqbal Malik at Darhal, Bukhari said "Bond of Gujjars and Paharis is must for the development of Rajouri-Poonch regions," adding that both these communities are facing equally problems and it needs to be redered equally. "Our war is not against Gujjars. They are our brothers. We are fighting for our right and we are demanding it from Government of India," he said Bukahri said that they did not share bitter relations with Gujjars and instead they are appealing them to come forward and support their cause. "We welcome Gujjars to support ST status for Paharis," he said adding they never demanded to give them reservation from the quota of Gujjars. "Let the Gujjars enjoy the quota being given to them but Paharis should also be given benefits under ST status", he added. Accompanied by other Pahari leaders, Rachpal Singh, vice chairman of Kissan Board, former speaker Mirza Abdul Rashid, Provincial president Mohammad Azam Sagar and Shahbaz Khan, Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Pahari Peoples Movement (JKPM), Bukhari described Paharis as most "secular community" in the country. Meanwhile, senior Pahari leader Mohammad Iqbal Malik thanked people for supporting the cause of Paharis. He said that though there may be some political differences between the Pahari leaders on party lines but they are united on Pahari front.
