| Jora visits Gurjar Cultural Heritage complex | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 1: Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora today visited mega Gurjar Centre for Culture and Heritage, being raised by Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust- one of the prestigious NGOs in the state with an estimated cost of Rs.4 crore. Appreciating the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust for raising such a magnificent complex, Jora termed it as one of the most beautiful and distinctive buildings of the state and said it would greatly help in promoting the tribal culture in the state. The Minister was told that the complex which is in the final stage will be first of its kind in the country with auditorium at a seating capacity of about 1200 persons. The complex will have Museum, Art Gallery, Conference Hall, Publishing and Research House. The Minister also visited the Trust Research Library which has recently been renovated and updated has now a collection of over 3000 books most of them on tribal culture, mores and ways. It was apprised that Library is being used by research scholars mostly from University of Jammu. As a part of Trust's efforts to strengthen the Art Gallery and Museum, it has collected rare photographs depicting life style, cultural traits, art and craft of Gurjar. Some rare painting of Gurjars has also been collected. The Minister was also apprised of the activities of the Trust which during the past over 18 years of its establishment has helped in speedy educational advancement of the tribals and in furtherance of tribal culture and language. It was further stated that the trust is deeply committed for the speedy upliftment of the tribals and making them educationally advanced, socially awakened and economically viable. Director Tourism, S M. Sawhney also accompanied the Minister during the visit.
