CITU organises May Day rally

JAMMU, May 1: Centre of Indian Trade Unions, J&K organized a May Day rally at Gandhinagar in which hundreds of workers participated. The workers were enthusiastically raising slogans in memory of working class who sacrificed their lives in 1886 at Chicago for improvement of working conditions of the laboureres in factories and elsewhere.
Comrade Omprakash, General Secretary, J&K CITU, while addressing the workers stressed that working class people are the back-bone of the society but this section is living under sub-human conditions due to the faulty economic policies of the Central Government since 90's when it opted for neo-liberal economic policies, the net result of which is widening gap between the poor and the rich and retrenchment of workers in various areas. He further said that the only way to fight this system is to form a joint platform of all shades of trade unions so that the rights of the working class are safeguarded. Comrade Sham Prasad Kesar, Regional Secretary, CPI(M), Jammu and Treasurer CITU, J&K, while highlighting the significance of May Day popularly known as Labour Day said that it is after the protracted struggle of the working class people that minimal concessions in respect of reducing of working hours and other working conditions were made available to this section." This Day has great significance viz-a-viz working class of the world which reminds us about the prolonged struggle and sacrifices given by the workers in protection of their rights and cautions us that united and continuous struggle is the only way to fight the oppressive policies of the government, in whatsoever form", Comrade Kesar added.
Comrade Nirdosh Uppal, Chief Organizer, CITU, J&K, said that working force is presently undergoing worst type of hardships due to non-implementation of labour laws and absence of good working conditions in the factories and construction projects. He further stressed for strengthening of international solidarity of the working class on eve of May Day to fight back the repressive policies of the corporate sector. Pawan Gupta, Divisional Secretary, NZIEA,Srinagar Zone, opposed the FDI in the insurance sector and privatization of the Public Sector Undertakings. Senior Comrades, Bishan Dass, Ramesh Chander and Kishore Kumar also addressed the procession.
