| BSF foils infiltration bid; High alert on IB | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 1: Five days after two infiltrators were killed in a Punjab border village close to J&K, BSF foiled an intrusion bid by three Pak-based militants on the International Border (IB) in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba late last night. The infiltration bid was followed by heavy firing from the Pak side, according to sources in BSF. Sources said a patrol of 59 Bn of BSF picked up the movement of three heavily armed militants while they were nearing the barbed wire fencing at Ballar in Ramgarh at about 11.30 pm. The BSF men took position and opened fire. Hearing the gunshots, the Pak Rangers opened heavy volume of fire, targetting the forward border outposts of BSF in Ballar area. Sources said taking cover of the Pak fire and advantage of darkness and undulating border terrain, the militants managed to flee back to Pakistan unhurt. The unprovoked Pak firing amounted to major breach of ceasefire agreement between the two countries, the sources added. The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 3.30 am today. A high alert was sounded all along the IB by BSF after the failed infiltration bid by the Pak-based militants. Senior BSF officers, who visited the spot at Ballar this morning, asked the troops to remain vigilant to foil any infiltration bid from across the IB.
