| BGSBU to start DDE courses, new depts. of Life Science | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 1: The Academic Council of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri has decided to establish Directorate of Distance Education, new departments in different streams of Life science including Botany, Zoology and different subjects in the School of Management in view of broad vision of the University. The Academic Council of University, a highest Academic body, met today and took decisions of far-reaching consequence. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor Masud A. Chaudhary and was attended by eminent academicians of National and International fame. The Academic Council is the apex body in the University system which plans, views and evaluates the academic programmes of the University. Reviewing the progress made by the University, Mohammad Shamim Jairajpuri, an eminent zoologist and ex-Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azaz Urdu University, Hyderabad, said that the ground the fledgling University has covered during the short period of 5 years is nothing short of a miracle. "Some important decisions regarding setting up of directorate of Distance Education, new departments in different streams of Life science including Botany, Zoology and different subjects in the School of Management Studies were taken after threadbare discussions among members keeping in view the broad vision of the University," the press statement said. The proposed Distance Education programme, the members said, would be in consonance with the University's objective of reaching the inaccessible areas. The members took stock of the various teaching and research programmes of the University and commended the external funding earned from various departments of the Union Government and the publications produced by the scholars and the faculty. Among others who attended the meeting were Prof Mohammad S. Ashraf, Delhi University, Prof Mushtaq Pir, Chariman, JK BOPEEE, Prof A.M. Shah, Controller Examinations, Prof Khusheed Butt, Prof Zafar Reshi, Prof Mehrajuddin, from Kashmir University, Prof Ashok Aima, Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Prof Devanand from Jammu University, Prof R.K. Abrol, SMVDU and Deans of the University. The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Sh Mohammad Rashid Choudhary, Registrar. The members appreciated the establishment of College of Engineering & Technology and desired that the University should raise a good Medical College for which, the said, the Government should come forth with appropriate funding.
