Addressing a series of political conventions at Bijberhra, Budgam and Rafiabad areas of Kashmir valley, Vakil said that permanent peace would boost economy of Jammu and Kashmir and help the present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government to redress problem of unemployment haunting youth of the state. He reiterated that UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh have been working overtime to resurrect the indo-Pak peace process. Vakil said that dialogue between India-pak should be Jammu and Kashmir centric. "People in Jammu and Kashmir need to be re-assured that congress is keen to provide them dignified life and peaceful atmosphere. Our efforts should not be allowed to go waste. Elements inimical to peace should not be allowed to dominate the political or social scene of the state. Let us draw a line of distinction between peace lovers and war-mongers," Vakil said. Making a mention of certain political leaders talking of demilitarization and withdrawal of AFSPA, Vakil said "these leaders are power hungry and can stoop to any low for the same. They are habitual of raising such issues when they are out of power. They should look at their bleak past and refrain from bullying other nationalist forces of Jammu and Kashmir through their illogical and unreasonable statements." Calling them paper tigers, Vakil said that such people are bound to fail miserably when it comes to working on ground. "They cannot face people and hence, make statements while sitting inside air-conditioned rooms of their palatial houses," Vakil said. He affirmed that congress would not let the people of Jammu and Kashmir down. "Our leadership is committed to make this state the most powerful economic centre of not only India but of Asian sub-continent," added Vakil. Meanwhile, five councilors belonging to PDP joined Congress in Bijberhra and pledged to strengthen hands of UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.
