| Tarigami demands high level enquiry into SKUAST mismanagement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 2: Expressing serious concern over deteriorating standards, favoritism and illegal recruitments in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam MY Tarigami has urged upon the governor to constitute a high level committee to probe the allegations. Contrary to its mandate which include advancement of learning and undertaking the extension education to benefit rural people of the state, Tarigami alleged that for the last seven years SKUAST is confronting with academic erosion, mismanagement and malpractices. Besides several clandestine and arbitrary orders issued in violation of the set norms of the academic council, Tarigami has averred that no competent professionals have been assigned the job of deanship. "To prevent any restrictions from reports of the Crime Branch regarding illegal recruitments every effort is on to tailor these reports by utilizing university resources and offering backdoor appointments to kith and kin of the concerned officials," the MLA Kulgam has maintained. Taking a strong exception to the manipulated purchase committees formed in the SKUAST to acquire luxurious unproductive items like expensive flooring, furnishing, furniture, home and electrical appliances, Tarigami has said that the purpose with which this highest seat of agriculture research was environed has narrowed down to the embezzlements. The CPI (M) State Secretary has demanded a thorough enquiry into appointments of hundreds of backdoor adhoc entries who have been later on confirmed, ignoring talent and merit of the deserving candidates. Tarigami has also expressed astonishment over the interviews commenced for large number of scientific positions including the important posts of two directors and two deans at the fag end of the service of present VC. The CPI (M) State secretary had further appreciated the enquiry which was ordered by the minister for agriculture into the illegal promotions given to junior agriculture officers. He has however, demanded a stern action against the two erring senior officers who were held responsible for the illegal promotions, by an enquiry conducted by Verghese Sameul. "Besides, a stern action against the two officers, I demand the recovery of 2.43 Crores of the state exchequer which were drawn by the out of turn promotees on account of arrears of pay and fixation of pay in higher pay scales from the date of issue of the illegal order to January 29, 2010," Tarigami has added further.
