| What if NC, PDP accept Geelani's invite? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 2: Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has urged the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to shun electoral politics and join the Hurriyat Conference to pursue a ‘common agenda’. If the recent statements of National Conference and PDP are any indicator then both these organizations are only a statement away from the separatist conglomerate. The National Conference leaders have went to the extent of saying that accession was temporary. Strong voices seeking resolution of the Kashmir dispute have been raised by the organization as well. The National Conference has prepared a comprehensive document seeking restoration of autonomy to convey in clear terms that the on-going status quo was not acceptable to them. And then National Conference has an edge over the separatists. It has twenty-eight elected members in the assembly and three in the Raj Sabha. The people, according to Syed Ali Geelani, did cast their votes during the elections. He made this statement during a recent press conference. Geelani perhaps did not know that particular statement of his had far reaching political consequences. He accepted and established the representative character of National Conference and the PDP. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is accused of pursuing a pro-freedom agenda. It is considered more separatist than the separatists. It has been seeking self rule and sees no problems in General Musharraf's Four Point Formula. It has also been seeking demilitarization. Although PDP could not sell its Self Rule Formula properly yet it has managed a good show in South Kashmir. As far as the Hurriyat constitution is concerned, any organization that accepts Kashmir a disputed territory can become its member. National Conference and PDP also accept Kashmir as a disputed territory in the changed scenario. What if National Conference and PDP accept Geelani's invitation? Unlike Hurriyat Conference both these parties have mature and articulate politicians. They have the potential of not only hijacking the Hurriyat agenda but the separatist conglomerate as well. In fact, PDP had almost hijacked the Hurriyat agenda. It was the unexpected 2008 uprising that saved the Hurriyat Conference and its leaders. And, it also applied brakes to what Kashmir watchers call PDP onslaught. By extending invitation to NC and PDP, Geelani thinks he has exposed the two `pro-Indian' parties. However, the people close to him are worried. Ever since the invitation was extended, they have been praying in the following words: Teri dua hai ki ho teri aarzoo poori Meri dua hai ki teri aarzoo badal jai (You pray for achieving your cherished goal I pray you change your destiny)
