| Charas smuggler gets 10yrs imprisonment, Rs 1 lac fine | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 3: Third Additional Sessions Judge RS Jain awarded ten years imprisonment and fine Rs 1 lacs to Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat of Sofshalli Kukarnag Anantnag Kashmir who was apprehended by the Channi Himmat police on December 20, 2007 on searching him 6 KG, 990 gram charas was recovered from him and a case u/s 8/20 Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS ACT) was registered. While awarding sentence RS Jain Third Additional Sessions Judge after hearing APP GS Charak appearing for the state observed that facts as proved in the present case are that the accused was consciously transporting commercial quantity of charas. Drug menace in J&K is increasing day by day and completely destroying the fiber of society and its youth thereby calling for severe punishment in case of illegal transportation of drugs meant for illegal trade. However, the fact that accused is an old person cannot be lost sight. In view of the facts and circumstances of the case, accused Ghulam Nabi Bhat is sentenced to undergo imprisonment for a period 10 years and a fine of Rs 10 lacs under NDPS Act. ----JNF
