| JKMF: Treat Pvt. Educational institute as non commercial institutions | | | Early Times report Jammu, May 3: The general secretary J&K Milchar Front, KK Rao has appealed to chief minister Umar Abdullah to intervene personally in getting private school declared as non-commercial institutions. He said treating private schools as commercial institutions is in genuine as these schools are exactly providing the same services to the public as the government institutions; rather they are saving government exchequer from huge expenditure. He said instead of encouraging these schools, they are being harassed by imposing commercial electric rates and municipal tax on them. Moreover the schools are granted affiliation/ recognition for a period of two or three years only which should be at least fixed for five and added 5 years. Moreover after the joint inspection by the board and educational department authorities and a joint committee meeting of both, order for extension of affiliation/ recognition is issued. This order should be treated as valid both for board and education department. But the schools are required to get a separate order of extension of recognition from the secretariat which is unnecessary and causes harassment. Rao further said that at least 90% private schools are such whose budget is always deficit after meeting out all expenses. Government should not treat these schools at par with the 10% affluent schools. It should categorize schools on the basis of their income and treat each category with separate norms. If the harassment from government side continues, these 90% schools will get closed very soon, he said.
