| Now, Govt.to focus on fruit production in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 3: Keeping in mind that fruit export continued to be the state's backbone of its economy, the National Conference led Government has decided to increase the plant density which would ensure increased fruit production. The Government has decided to earmark additional funds for the construction of cold store chains in the state and in the fruit Mandis in Delhi and Mumbai so that fresh fruit did not perish during transhipment from the orchards to the railway stations and to the Mandis. The Horticulture Department is going to install micro irrigation system at its Zainpora farm in Kashmir with a view to popularizing drip irrigation amongst the horticulturists. The Department is going to extend its activities in difficult terrains such as Gurez and Uri. While Apricot has been introduced in Gurez, additional area is being brought under olive plantation in Uri.
