| Degree College Poonch celebrates annual day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, May 3: An impressive function was organized to celebrate Annual Day function of Government Degree College Poonch here today. Nearly 200 awards and mementos were given away to students for excellent performance in academic, social service, quiz, competition, sports, music, culture and other activities. Students of the college presented a colourful culture programme on the occasion.
College Principal Girdari Lal Sharma presided over the function while Principal Government Degree College, Rajouri, Shabir Hussain Shah, S. D. Sharma and noted poet and scholar Mehmood-ul-Hassan Mehmood were guests of honour. Among others, college staff, prominent citizens, ministerial staff, members and students attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal gave a resume of last year's academic, social and curricular activities organized by the college, besides construction works and face lifting of campus completed during the same period. Giving details, he said that devastating earthquake of 2005 had badly damaged the college complex and to bring on track the de-railed atmosphere of the college was an uphill task.
The Principal lauded the cooperation extended by faculty members and students in face lifting work of college. He said that commerce stream is being introduced in the college during the current year adding that more new streams will also be introduced in near future to facilitate students of the far off district. He appreciated the financial assistance extended by the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik and MLA Haveli Ajaz Jan to gear up completion of ongoing construction work in the college premises.
