| Sham Directs officers to develop traditional water resources | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 3: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, today dedicated a road, one Water Supply Scheme and three school buildings to the people of Akhnoor Constituency. The Link Road from Tanda to Khungan has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 68 lakh under NABARD with 1.535 km length which will benefit over 25000 people of about one dozen villages. Besides, the WSS inaugurated at village Kapian-Di-Bain, involving an expenditure of Rs. 1.48 crore, will cater to the drinking water requirement of six hamlets with over 3000 population. The villages which will be covered under this scheme included Mohalla Churdu, Mohalla Khiladi, Mohalla Mangu-Di-Pattian and Sire-Da-Chhappad etc. The Minister inaugurated three Primary School buildings at villages, Tundi Nalla, Seora and Khungan which have been constructed under SSA with a cost of Rs. 4.40 lakh each. Addressing a large public meeting at Tanda-Khungan, the Minister said that coalition Government is endeavoring a lot to provide better facilities to the people. Sharma said that road connectivity is vital for the socio-economic development and Government has formulated a comprehensive programme to connect all villages with the urban areas with pucca road links. The Minister directed the officers to attend people's problems on priority and no laxity on their part will be tolerated in this regard. He said that monitoring mechanism will be strengthened and a monthly Action Taken Report (ATR) of all the Departments will be reviewed by him personally. He issued specific instructions to the officers of PHE Department to ensure adequate supply of drinking water to all areas. He asked to press into service adequate tanker supply in the affected areas in view of scorching summer months. He stressed for developing the traditional water resources like ponds, bawlies and check dams for meeting the other requirements.
