| Pak PM hints at deal with opposition parties | | | ISLAMABAD, OCT 15 Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has hinted at a realignment of political forces and a deal with the opposition parties such as former premier Benazir Bhutto-led PPP ahead of next year's general elections.
Speaking to newspaper editors and senior columnists at Governors House upon his arrival in Karachi yesterday, Aziz said, without naming anyone, that the government had been holding talks with "even those who are opposed to us."
He made these remarks in answer to a question about the present political situation, with particular reference to the possible return to Pakistan of Bhutto from self-exile abroad.
"Yes, we have been holding talks with every party, including those from the opposition," Aziz was quoted as saying by Daily Times newspaper.
PPP had yesterday dismissed as "speculation" reports that its leader had struck a deal with President Pervez Musharraf for her return to campaign for her party ahead of her meeting with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to work out seat adjustments.
About reports of friction between government coalition partners, particularly between the Pakistan Muslim League and Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Aziz said such differences of opinion were "clear and loud manifestations of democracy and democratic norms."
