New Millenium, Gorkha Club register big wins

JAMMU, May 4: New Millenium Club and Gorkha Cricket Club registered impressive wins over their opponents to advance in the ongoing 2nd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament at Parade Ground, here today.
In the first match of the day, New Millenium Cricket Club (NMCC) defeated Punjab National Bank (PNB) XI by nine wickets. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, PNB XI set a target of 103 runs for the loss of six wickets, which, in reply, NMCC chased in just 11.4 overs losing one wicket.
Vivek Suri was top scorer with 32 runs from PNB XI while Surinder contributed 16. From NMCC, Muqandar took two wickets, followed by Varinder and Parvez, who shared apiece each.
Later, chasing the target, NMCC overhauled the opponent total for the loss of just one wicket sparing 8.2 overs of their innings. Waffar made unbeaten 35-ball 41 runs including eight boundaries. Atul (22 off 19 balls, 2x4, 2x6) and Anil (27 off 14 balls, 4x4, 1x6) were other main contributors. Vivek Suri took the only wicket lost by NMCC giving away 11 runs in three overs. For his match winning innings, Waffar was declared man of the match.
In another match, played in the afternoon session, Gorkha Cricket Club (GCC) registered 50 runs win over Super Star Cricket Club. Batting first, GCC made 177 runs losing five wickets. Munish (Monu) played impressive innings of 35-ball 53 runs including eight hits to the fence. Tushar and Rahul contributed 37 and 34 runs respectively. From Super Star Club, Latif and Vinod were most successful bowlers with three and two wickets respectively.
Batting second, Super Star bowled out for 127 runs. Bunty was top scorer with 28. Rajesh Dutta and Rohit were other main contributors with 16 and 15 runs respectively. Rafiq, Nikhil, Raju and Sanjeev shared two wickets each from GCC. Munish was declared man of the match for his match winning innings of 53 runs.
Today's matches were officiated by Sadiq Malik, Sanjay Raina and Sanjay Pardhan while Raghav maintained the score.
