| DDC Udhampur demands regular deployment of tanker services | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, May 4: District Congress Committee, Udham-pur has demanded immediate regular deployment of tanker service to arid and dry areas for ferrying water there. The demand was raised during the routine monthly meeting of Udhampur unit of Congress party held at party headquarters here today under the chairmanship of President District Congress Committee Bhupinder Singh Pathania and Brij Mohan Sharma, contestant of last assembly elections from Udhampur. In the meeting the speakers said that it is quite surprising that there is no tanker service available with the PHE department in Udhampur district. They warned to launch a stir against PHE department if remedial measures are not taken at the earliest. The party activists also demanded formulation of five-year plan under NREGA in the respective Gram Sabhas of the villages. They alleged that it is highly unethical that such plans are being formulated at the behest of vested interests. In tune with the sentiments and feelings of party rank and file besides common man, Pathania piloted resolutions addressed to party high command which were later on unanimously passed by the workers after a detailed discussion. DCC called upon the party rank and file to gear up for the upcoming Municipal and Panchayat Polls and spread the policies and programmes of the party up to the farthest quarters of the district. After last year's kharif crop loss, the rabi crop has also more or less failed in entire Udhampur district, and the loss has spiraled up to 60-80 percent as such farmers are in dire need of financial assistance from the government side. Therefore a reasonable cash dole accompanied with further free three-month ration is also required to do full justice with the suffering farmers, meeting said. The meeting was attended by the entire district and block-level heads of the parent party as well as sister organizations and the party delegates drawn from the hilly areas of the district.
