| World Asthma Day observed at JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 4: National Service Scheme in association with Health Centre, University of Jammu, today held a camp at Health Centre to observe World Asthma Day. Prof R D Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, inaugurated the camp. On this occasion Spirometry (Lung Function Test) was performed on about 110 people. Dr Sanjeev Narang , Consultant Chest Physician, ASCOMS examined the patients who do not have normal Lung function tests. While talking to media he said that major cause of Asthma is Pollution, other being Genetics and we don't have any control over the genetic cause. Some habits like smoking and tobacco also causes Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Dr Manju Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, University of Jammu said that the only prevention is that detection and treatment of asthma at an early stage. The asthmatics should avoid pollutants, allergens and should observe healthy life style with no smoking. Everyone should do deep breathing exercises to avoid any kind of respiratory disease. Dr R.D.Sharma appreciated the initiative to create awareness among the people regarding Asthma. Dr Jasbir Singh, Programme Coordinator NSS, Prof Naresh Padha, Dr Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon, University of Jammu were also present on this occasion. Dr Jasbir Singh, thanked Dr Sanjeev Narang and assured that such camps will be organized in future also.
