| 21 new infiltration routes in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: Shifting focus on the borders neighbouring Pakistan to stop the entry of Pak-based militants into J&K, different counter-intelligence (CI) agencies have identified 21 new infiltration routes in the state. The new infiltration routes were identified by the CI agencies with the help of border residents and the troops guarding the borders, police sources said. Sources said the identification of the new routes would help in the killing of infiltrating militants before they entered the border forests and then the mountains leading to Rajouri, Poonch and Doda. "We have surveyed and identified 21 new infiltration routes along Indo-Pak border. This will help security agencies to pin down infiltrating militants," the sources added. These routes were identified along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts. Sources said the intruders were taking advantage of thick woods, dry nallahs, nullahs and zero populated areas to infiltrate into J&K. These infiltration routes included Pathri Gali, Sobra Gali, Fugwari belt and Bachoo belt in Poonch, Panjtali belt and Gagrian route in Jammu, Baber belt in Samba and Bain Nallah in Kathua. Sources said these routes were put under three-tier security. There were 25 terrorist training camps-- 21 along LoC and four along IB -- in Pakistan where around 1,560-1,615 militants were undergoing training with the ISI support, the sources added. There were reports of presence of 300 militants in Goi-Kahuta-Chirat belt, 1,50,155 in Kotli-Sensa belt, 400 in Mirpur-Bindi, 260-265 in Samani-Kudiali-Garnum belt and 450 in Sailkote-Zafarwala belt."Infiltration has increased during 2009. Gross infiltration was estimated at 342 in 2008, while it was 485 in 2009," the sources added.
