SHO suspended for not registering FIR
5/5/2010 12:34:48 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 4: SHO of Talwara police station in Reasi was today suspended after people protested, alleging that he had "deliberately" not registered FIR in the murder of a villager.
The order of suspension was issued by Udhampur-Reasi range DIG Gulzar Singh Salathia.
Police sources said the body of Shamsher Singh, who had allegedly eloped with his sister-in-law a week back, was recovered from Talwara area this morning.
A bottle of poison used for killing rats was also found lying near his body.
Though Shamsher's family and locals alleged that he had been murdered, no FIR was registered by the Talwara police in this regard.
This angered the people. Led by a local NC leader, over 600 men and women held a strong anti-police demonstration at Talwara, alleging that police were dragging their feet in the case. Following protests, DIG Salathia ordered the suspension of Talwara police station SHO P P Singh.Following an assurance by senior police officers, who visited the spot later, that justice would be done in the case, the locals dispersed peacefully.
