| Zargar turns out to be NC worker | | Delhi attack plan | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 4: Omar Zargar, who was picked up by police in Srinagar for having allegedly planed to execute bomb attacks in New Delhi, has turned out to be a National Conference (NC) worker. A resident of Kalamdanpur in Nawab Bazar of Srinagar, he was earlier arrested a fortnight ago on the charge of being involved in stone-pelting incidents in the valley. Police sources said Omar, who carried an I-card of the ruling National Conference (NC), was arrested on April 23 in connection with stone-pelting. He was stated to be the deputy of stone-pelters' leader Irshad Malik. Sources said he was released within three days of his arrest on the intervention of a senior government functionary. His release coincided with the time he was to carry out bomb attacks in New Delhi, the sources added. Sources said during his interrogation, he had allegedly confessed to being in constant touch with militants who planned to trigger blasts in the crowded Delhi markets. When contacted, a senior NC leader denied knowing Omar and doubted that he was a NC worker. Sources said he was among the three persons who had been tasked to bomb Delhi areas. He was also alleged to be in touch with local militant Umair, now in Pakistan. He was also alleged to be in touch with Saudi Arabia-based militants -- Zeeshan and Hanzulla, the sources added. In January, Zargar was asked by Umair to deliver a consignment to a person in Delhi. In April, he was again contacted and told that he would receive the consignment in Srinagar. He was further told that the contact of the Delhi-based operative would be given to him only once he reached Delhi. During his interrogation, Omar told police that he was to be given a pen-like object containing explosives. His sustained interrogation was on, the sources added.
