| BJP national leader makes 'soft' talk about Kashmiris | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 4: In what can be seen as sharp contrast from its hard posturing and 'menacing' utterings on Kashmir related matters, BJP , it appears to have suddenly changed its strategy. The statement issued by party's National Spokesperson at least suggests the 'pleasant departure' from constant bashing and rhetorical approach of the party on such matters in the sensitive state of J&K. On his first visit to Srinagar after assuming the office of this post, Tarun Vijay, a popular name in the party at national level, has surprisingly come up with observations in the statement issued through press note today which are totally in contrast and contradiction of how the leaders of the party at local (state) level look at these issues. The party spokesperson has conveyed the 'best wishes and prayers' of National president Nitin Gadkari for common Kashmiris, particularly youth whom he has described as peace loving wanting to have prosperous and harmonious future. He has also given special message of goodwill for Kashmiri youth. So far so good. An optimistic observation of a young party leader about Kashmiri youth makes quite some interesting reading. But when he goes about a step further, talking about New Kashmir led by these youth and time ripe for what he says leading into an era of peace, prosperity and progress. What makes the observation of this leader, who at several points mentions endorsement of the National president, amazing is when he says 'we must lend an ear and guide them for future', and channelise their anger into employment avenues. The BJP leader has also applauded Kashmiri women for their role in keeping their children away from terrorism as also for keeping up the spirit of the composite culture of 'kashmiriyat'. Makes an incredible and striking reading of the contents of the statement when he invites youth and women to join the party ranks for what he says creating progressive entrepreneurship. Even more stark and stunning change in approach is on the matters of his observation about protection of some Hindu religious structures and even renovation of some, an issue about which the party leaders both at the national and local level have been raking up the issues in negative sense, highlighting how many such structures have been vandalized and looted over the years in different parts of Kashmir. The BJP leader also strongly feels that a large number of Kashmiri Muslims want return of Kashmiri Hindus back to vcalley whereas the senior local leaders have been crying hoarse the situation is still not ripe and conducive for safe return of Hindus to valley. All in all, the BJP national spokesperson has endorsed the solutions to all issues, related to Kashmir through the path of 'insaniyat', rather than through 'bullets', which can also bee seen as departure frpm its erstwhile strategy of 'pro active' policy to deal with misled and angry youth, whose activities be that violence or stone pelting, the latest rage, amounts to anti national activities. One wonders is this sheer jingoism of words to woo Kashmiris towards party which has been abhorred by the latter or a real and pleasant change of strategy. Interesting fact, however remains that the leadership at the state level, all cadres mainly based in Jammu were unaware of the visit of national leader to Srinagar, leave alone the 'observations' he has made about the visit.
