| Technical education for women, priority of Govt: Chib | | Two Polytechnic colleges being considered for degree courses | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 5: Minister for Medical and Technical Education R S Chib while addressing the staff and students of Women Polytechnic College, Jammu said that Technical Education for "Women" under the "Skill Development Mission" Government of India is a priority area. Chib said that we have to ensure that our women folk are adequately technically trained in order to bring them at par with the boys. He said that many ITIs in the state are going to have women wings and some of the ITIs will be totally dedicated to women for their technical training. Chib said that the "SKILL DEVELOPMENT MISSION" at the state level is being personally monitored by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Chib while interacting with the students informed that a proposal is already pending with government to facilitate all those students who want lateral entry in the degree courses. He said, that two Polytechnic Colleges one at Jammu and one at Srinagar is being considered for Degree Courses. He further added that the government is quite serious about it in order to provide this facility to the needy students. The Minister took round of all the laboratories and classrooms of Women Polytechnic College, Jammu and expressed his unhappiness over certain lose practices being followed by the faculty members in the teaching and laboratory areas. He issued the directions on spot in order to improve the functioning of different departments. One Soket Gupta, Lecturer, looking after Textile Engineering was placed under suspension, because of various malpractices of serious nature being followed by him in the laboratories. He also issued warnings to some of the employees, who have not kept the areas of responsibility upto the mark. Chib accompanying by the engineers of the J&K Housing Board, the constructing agency also inspected the construction work of staff quarters in the said polytechnic college premises. He issued on the spot directions to them for early completion of these works. Chib also asked the Principal to improve upon the surroundings around different departments in the institution. Later, in the day he took round of Government Medical College, Jammu along with Principal, Medical College Administrator Associated Hospitals and Medical Superintendent. He also visited CCU and enquired about the health of Veteran Journalist Yash Basin, who is ailing because of cardiac problem. Chib also enquired about the health of different patients admitted in the Governemtn Medical College Hospital.
