| Passengers risk their lives in front of 'alert' traffic cops | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 5: Forced by circumstances and carelessness of the traffic police personnel, stationed almost at every major crossing across the city, thousands of commuters traveling through public transport facilities are virtually risking their lives while going to workplaces and returning home after performing their respective duties. A quick review of the rising number of road accidents involving daily commuters will surely fix the blame on over loading of matadors and rash driving by the drivers on busy and bumpy roads. But in reality the fault lies with the 'vigilant' traffic police cops, who can be spotted every where on the roads stopping two wheelers and drivers of load carriers but careless drivers of rashly driven matadors often go scot free for petty considerations. Though it is not very difficult to find over speeding and over loaded matadors across Jammu city and its adjoining rural areas but they cross all the hurdles and in some cases even the traffic police authorities share a glance or two with either the driver or its cleaner before giving them the nod to pass through and violate more traffic rules with out any penalty. The same can be verified by the total number of challans issued by the traffic police authorities in the name of violators by comparing it with the number of violations seen through even with the naked eye. It may mentioned here that the awareness on part of the commuters is also a key factor in checking such mishaps but in the absence of adequate number of matadors on different routes leave very little scope for the hapless passengers to wait little longer to find a cozy seat on the bus and are some times left with little or no option but to risk their lives and hang and some times even cling on to the ladder of the bus or the entry door.
