Early Times Report
Jammu, May 5: The police Monday manhandled two videographers in the Sadder court complex in the summer capital. The journalists were in the court premises to cover Zahid Farooq trial.
Reports said BSF commandant RK Birdi and constable Lakhwinder were brought in the court Wednesday morning amid tight security. As soon as the accused arrived, the videographers rushed towards them to cover the event.
As the videographers were performing their duties, a police man lost his cool and manhandled them. The police man also caused damage to their cameras. Later, members of the bar association and fellow journalists rescued the scribes.
Meanwhile, no orders were passed on BSF petition seeking transfer of the case to a BSF court as the counsel for the accused was not present. The case has been fixed for hearing on May 19.
Zahid Farooq, a student of 11th standard was allegedly killed by a BSF party led by commandant RK Birdi on February 5 near Nishat. The killing evoked massive protests across Kashmir forcing the police to arrest the accused. The accused have been charged with murder.
