| JU postpones first paper of MBA-IV semester | | Students protest against causal approach, say no mind was applied before date sheet finalisation | | Mishu Gupta EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 5: After facing severe criticism from different quarters over its causal approach vis-à-vis issuing notification of MBA-IV Semester date sheet just two days short of start of examinations, University of Jammu (JU) today reviewed its decision and postponed first paper scheduled to be held on May 7. Up in arms against the slapdash approach of The Business School (TBS) and Examination Wing, scores of students from different colleges also staged a noisy protest outside Examination Block accusing the university authorities of playing with their future. The Early Times in today’s edition had highlighted the “lackadaisical” approach of Examination Wing which had succumbed to the pressure of The Business School and issued a date sheet for MBA-IV semester just two days before the commencement of the examination. Official sources informed, “Taking cognizance of the injustice being meted out to MBA-IV semester students , the Vice Chancellor held a meeting with Controller of Examination, G M Bhat this afternoon and decided to postpone the first paper to provide some sort of relief to the students.” When contacted, the Controllerlerler of Examination confirmed that the first paper scheduled for May 7 has been postponed and would now be held at the end of the examinations. “It would definitely provide some sort of mental relief to the students preparing for the examination,” he said, adding “The examinations would now commence from May 10.” Earlier, the decision of Controller of Examination University of Jammu brought a strong reaction from the students of different colleges who assembled in the university and staged a noisy protest describing the decision as “step-motherly” treatment of The Business School against the students who have been pursuing their professional courses from other institutes. Sahil, one of the protesting students alleged, “The entire examination system in the University has become a mockery. They frame examination schedule without applying their mind and taking into the consideration the problems being faced by the student community.” He also mocked at the University authorities’ decision to postpone the first paper saying “Whether it would serve its purpose as it has been made mandatory for the university to issue date sheet fifteen days before the commencement of any examination.” “The students of The Business School were well aware of the examination schedule and delay was a deliberate attempt on the part of the school to give a step motherly treatment to the students pursuing their professional courses from private colleges,” he alleged. He further said that many of the students like him need at least some time to prepare for the exams and the notification of the date sheet should be issued one month before examination. Later, a joint protest organized by the students of all the Private MBA colleges in context of the date sheet of MBA-IV Semester Students from all the private colleges namely MIET,PIMS,IMS,SET BUSINESS SCHOOL,MBS participated in the protest seeking change in date sheet & postponement of exams.
