| Ikhwani found guilty of murder | | | Early Times report Jammu, May 6: Sessions court Kulgam today held an Ikhwani guilty of killing an innocent civilian. The punishment, however, is likely to be announced on May 15. On December 22, 2002 Nazir Ahmad Wagay of Baghbal, Kulgam forced entry into the house of Abdul Hamid Teli of Khokherhama around 1300hrs and opened indiscriminate fire. Teli died on the spot as his sister Rafeeqa sustained injuries. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition. However, she survived the attack. The killing evoked severe reaction from the people forcing the police to register a case No 18/2002 under sections 302, 452 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and 7/25 Indian Arms Act in FIR against the accused. The accused was put on trial immediately. His counsel Advocate Muhammad Yusuf Rather told the court that the accused had killed Teli when he was under severe depression. He requested lenient punishment. Under section 302, the court may grant life imprisonment or even death penalty.
