| Amid ceasefire violation, Pak attempts to push ultras into J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 6: Violating the 1993 peace agreement today twice on the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sub-sector of Poonch, Pakistan today made unsuccessful attempts to push militants into India. The infiltrations were, however, detected and foiled by the alert Indian troops both the times, official sources said. Astonishingly, the ceasefire was violated twice in an interval of few hours, the sources added. Sources said heavy exchange of fire between the two sides began in the evening and continued till late tonight. Earlier in the morning, Pak troops opened fire, targetting Post No 68 at Balnoi in Mendhar. Indian troops guarding the post returned the fire. The exchange of fire lasted about 30 minutes. There was no casualty on the Indian side, sources said and added casualty, if any, on the other side was not immediately known. Sources said after a lull of few hours, the Pak troops again opened the mouth of their guns in the evening, this time targetting Balnoi, Roshni, Ripple and at least three other forward posts. India retaliated. There was heavy exchange of fire between the two sides for quite some time, the sources added. Sources said Pak troops put in use their heavy machine guns. No loss was, however, reported on the Indian side. The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing when reports last came in. Sources said a red alert had been sounded all along the LoC to foil any attempt by militants to sneak into India. Pak troops had opened fire on Indian posts in Mendhar sector last Saturday also, injuring a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper critically. After the Saturday's incident, army had lodged a strong protest with the Pakistani Army in a flag meeting held at Chakan da Bagh in Poonch and asked it to desist from hostile action.
