BGSBU trains 160 rural women
Registrar, Dean distributes cheques and certificates among trainees

Rajouri, May 6: In an endeavor to empower rural women, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri has given training to 160 women of Rajouri in different fields so that they can earn their bread and butter by using bioresources as a tool. The University also issued certificates to them besides distributed Rs 6 lakh cheques as a stipend among the women trainees.

To culminate the training being provided to the rural women of Rajouri, under Bioresources based training project- a project funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, Principal Investigator, Dr Ashfaq Zarri hold valedictory function in Centre for Biodiversity Studies in which Registrar MR Choudhary was chief guest while Dean Academic Affairs Prof AK Koul was guest of honor. Director CBS Prof RN Gohil and University officers were also present while research staff viz Dr. Sudha Jala Kohli, Uzma Naz, Rubina Naz, Muslima Nazir, Sachin Ahangar and Fazal Hussain arranged the programme in the Centre. In the function, MR Choudhary distributed certificates and cheques worth approxitaley Rs 6 lakhs among the women trainees. These women were trained in biocrafts, mushroom cultivation, medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation and floriculture.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar MR Choudhary expressed his satisfaction over the running of project funded by various ministries of GoI in the Centre for Biodiversity Studies. He said that these projects are not only important for the people of Rajouri and Poonch but whole of the country. He added that University is already concentrating on women empowerment and various steps are being taken in this regard. Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. AK Koul also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier Dr Ashfaq Zarri gave a brief introduction of the project and highlighted the main areas achievements of the project. Dr. Sudha Jala Kohli, Research Associate welcomed the chief guest.

Meanwhile trainees expressed their happiness over completing the training and pledged to utilize this knowledge at home for earning bread and butter. A women trainee said that she is going to cultivate flowers and open a shop in the market. Another woman said she would cultivate mushroom and market it.
