| Goni declares open Madar-e-Meharban cricket tourney | | Master Club, Kathua Blues win opening ties | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, May 6: Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Mohd Aslam Goni today declared open the 2nd Madar-e-Meharban Cricket Tournament at Police Lines grounds, here today.
The chief guest was accompanied by MLA, Vimla Luthra, District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Sanjeev Verma and SSP Kathua, Garib Dass.
The chief guest interacted with the participating teams and wished them success in the tournament. He promised that players giving extra ordinary performance in this tournament would be considered for the Ranji Trophy team for the forthcoming season.
In the first match of the day, Master Cricket Club Chandwan defeated Stadium XI by four runs. Earlier, Master Cricket Club set a target of 122, which, in reply, Stadium XI could not chase and bowled out for 117 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Happy Singh was declared man of the match for making highest 32 runs.
In another match of the day, Blues Star Cricket Club registered a big 76 runs win over Mayank Goswami- B Cricket Club Jammu. Batting, Kathua Blues set a big target of 172 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, which Goswami Club could chase and bowled out for just 95 runs. For his superb knock of 72 runs, Vishal Sharma was adjudged man of the match. Earlier, speaking in the inaugural function, chairman of the Madar-e-Meharban Cricket Association, Kishore Bakshi disclosed that 16 teams are taking part in this knock-out tournament.
Among others present were president of the host Association, Shakeel Ahmed, general secretary, Harpreet Singh, Muqtiar Chand, Amit Sharma, Shakir Hussain, Pardeep Kesar, Ramesh (Laddu), ex president of Municipal Council Kathua, Ch Rajinder Singh, Rtd SP Sardar Khan and I.P Sudan. |
