JAMMU, May 6: First ever in the history of State Health Department, the Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma today gave performance award to 41 employees of different categories in recognition to their performance during the year 2009-10.
The award was given to Doctors, Assistant Drug Controllers, Pharmacists, Nurses, drivers, Safai Karamcharies, FMPHWs, Nursing Orderlies, ministerial staff and ASHA workers of Jammu Province at an impressive function organized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University here today.
The award carries cash of rupees twenty thousand for doctors, rupees ten thousand for Pharmacists, rupees seven thousands to Nurses and FMPHW,and rupees five thousands for ASHA workers, Nursing Orderlies and Safai Karmcharies.
Besides, District Hospitals, Udhampur, Rajouri, Community Health Centre, Akhnoor, Public Health Centre, Manjakote, Allopathic Dispensary Badi Khad and Health Sub-Centre, Thandi Choi were also adjudged best performing institutions during the year 2009-10 and were given certificates of excellence.

The awards will be given to the outstanding employees of Health Department every year after accessing the performance of each individual in their respective fields. Aim of instituting such awards is to create sense of healthy competitions among various categories of employees and to improve the overall healthcare facilities in the State. The similar awards will also be given to the employees of Kashmir Province shortly.
Maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir is the only State in the country to introduce professional audit, the Minister said that this mechanism has proved very useful and helped in bringing transparency and accountability in the Department.
The system has also been lauded by the premier institutions of the country as well. He said that there is over 36 percent increase in institutional deliveries, 35 percent increase in IPD, hundred per cent in the revenue receipt in almost all the institutions and 51 per cent in the surgeries. Now, the institutions are in a position to carry out necessary repairs and renovations from their own resources.
