| NSUI holds protest against Director Social Welfare | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 6: In a reaction to the alleged misbehaviour of Director Social Welfare, Jammu with RBA category students, the activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest demonstration here today against the director social welfare Mahmud Rana.
The protesters assembled in front of the Directorate of Social Welfare department and held a massive demonstration there
NSUI activists shouted slogans against Director Social Welfare Mahmud Rana and burnt his effigy.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Director yesterday allegedly misbehaved with a students deputation who was trying to lodge a complaint against one of the officials of director office.
The matter arose when a notification of scholarship issued by social welfare department excluded RBA category few months ago.
To enquire the omission, the students of various institutions contacted social welfare department as they asserted that their scholarship applications be considered under OBCs but colleges wanted clarification from the social welfare department but it was delayed.
Students were repeatedly visiting the Directorate of Social Welfare office but were misguided by some staff members who had been assuring them to publish a notification in this regard.
When some students from Government College of Education visited the office on May 5 to show their dependence on scholarships, one lady staff officer rebuked them and allegedly used the words, "Get out of the office".
When students' deputation went to the Director to make a complaint against the lady officer, Director allegedly went furious and threatened to withhold their scholarships if they approached any authority.
He allegedly said, "I know about everything in my department and will not care about any complaint" He even stood up from his chair and allegedly assaulted one student named Abdul Waheed.
Jammu University NSUI President Rajveer Singh Manhas said that NSUI would support innocent students belonging to RBA category.
State general secretary Arjun Singh Pathania while addressing protesting students said that in this era of democracy and accountability, such officers were a blot on the bureaucracy. |
