| Students Forum lambastes JCUM | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Jammu Province Secular Students Forum criticized organizers of Jammu Central University Morcha (JCUM) against appointment of Prof Amitabh Matoo as first Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University with the plea that intellectuals of level of Prof Mattoo are beyond any religious or geographical boundaries stalling his appointment was injustice with higher education of Jammu region. Convener said that Prof Matoo is an intellectual of international repute and his appointment would bring Central University of Jammu to international level taking students of Jammu to international foray. Organisation said that Prof Mattoo is a state subject and adopting such a confrontationist attitude for an intellectual and institution builder of international repute was not loss of Prof Matoo but that of student community of Jammu who would be benefit from his expertise in the field. Raj Kamal, Convener said that Prof Matoo's appointment was resented earlier by such selfish people but he proved to be an asset to the higher education of Jammu taking the University of Jammu to the global level. They further said that one of the major parties, JKNPP who supported is supporting the JUCM themselves gave Prof Mattoo Dogra Rattan award then what credibility are they left with. These self styled leaders don't have any following in Jammu and are the political black mailers. The failure of bandh further proves beyond any doubt that bandh was an instrument to garnish their self interest. He asked the JCUM to look beyond the regional politics and see that appointment of such an intellectual par excellence would benefit none but Jammuites. He said that the Jammu Province Students Forum was in favour of a local as Vice Chancellor but when person like Prof Matoo was appointed should welcome the decision of the Government of India because have seen the working of Prof Matoo earlier where he brought laurels for University of Jammu to the extent that now University of Jammu was recognized as one of the top learning institutions of India and the world. He said that students of Jammu would not tolerate any attempt of communal forces to divide that people of Jammu. The organisation appeals to the people of Jammu at large to support Prof Matoo's Candidature so that we don't lose an institution builder of international repute for petty regional politics and let him build a world class institution in the shape of Central University of Jammu. Those who addressed the media include Kuldeep Raj, Arjun Sharma, Raj Kamal, Aijaz Ahmed, Anil Raina, Menu Malhotra and Ajay Jamwal.
