JSM demands local as VC CU Jammu

JAMMU, May 7: Jammu State Morcha (JSM) has pointed out that there is no dearth of talented people from Jammu region for the post of Vice Chancellor not only for Central University (CU) Jammu but other universities of Jammu also.
Talking to media persons here today, vice president and spokesperson JSM Capt Anil Gour said that JSM has sent a representation to President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal regarding its demand that only a person from Jammu region be appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the upcoming Central University Jammu.
He further said that along with highlighting the fact that that the Vice-Chancellors appointed for the Universities established in Kashmir Valley including the Kashmir Central University belong to the Valley whereas for the all Universities in Jammu region most of the time the Vice Chancellors are appointed from outside the Jammu region.
Gour informed that in memorandum they have mentioned few names of local academician included Prof I B Sharma, Lalit Magotra; Rajeev Gupta; Poonam Dhawan; BPS Seghal, KL Bhatia; Hari Om; Rekha Choudhary; Jagdish Dotra; M L Rana; Vijay Anand; Baldev Sharma; HL Goswami; GL Bhagat and retired IAS officers - Prith Pal Singh Betab; Charanjit Singh; Kapil Rajesh Padha; Daleep Singh amongst others. Gour said JSM will in no case tolerate the appointment of Prof Amitabh Mattoo, for the Central University, as the students, University and College teachers, and society at large did not have good experience of his functioning as VC JU.
He warned that if demand of Jammuites of Dogra as Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu is not conceded, than situation will certainly go out of proportion.
Gour also criticized the attitude of political parties particularly BJP over the issue.
