| JKLF to fight ‘state sponsored’ Robinhood | | ‘Engineer Rashid has truck with police’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 7: A 'pro-Indian' politician who has been desperately trying to project himself as Robinhood of Handwara managed to keep JKLF chairman, Malik Muhammad Yasin and his associates away from Handwara for the sixth time in past six months. This is how a spokesman of JKLF described Yasin's arrest by the police at Chogal Handwara today. The spokesman while taking strong note of what he called uncalled for police action, expressed determination to defeat the nefarious designs of `state sponsored and police patronized Robinhood.' Identifying the `Robinhood' as Engineer Abdul Rashid who represents Langat constituency in the legislative assembly, the spokesman accused the engineer turned human rights defender turned separatist turned MLA of having a truck with the police. "The authorities send him to relatives of slain militants with a political purpose. The authorities give an impression to the people that the ex-gratia was sanctioned to the next of kin of the deceased due to untiring efforts of Engineer Rashid. This way he has managed to keep the separatists away from Handwara", he said. Yasin was scheduled to address a public rally at Handwara. However, a police vehicle intercepted his motorcade near Chogal, and took the JKLF chairman and his associates into custody. The other arrestees include, Showkat Ahmad Bakshi, professor Javed, Basher Ahmad and Imtiaz Ahmad. Surprisingly no such restrictions are imposed on the separatists from entering a more sensitive area like Kupwara. Separatist leaders go to far flung areas to address people especially on Fridays. Engineer Rashid happens to be the most active MLA of Kashmir. A few months ago he broke open the lock of a ration depot and distributed ration amongst the people when the found the concerned staff absent. He is also seen in police stations helping the people of his constituency. He is seen screaming in the legislative assembly on issues that do not concern his constituency. According to some people, he is Abdul Ghani Lone in making. Before contesting 2008 assembly elections, Rashid was considered an ardent human rights defender. He had the honour of working with some of the renowned human rights defenders of India. Repeated attempts to reach Engineer Rashid failed.
