EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 7: Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Mattoo was never popular among the people Jammu. That's the reason they have been up in arms against the reported decision of the authorities to appoint him as Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu. Leave aside a few vested interests who want Prof Mattoo to become Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu. They see in the person of Prof Amitabh Mattoo an opportunity of furthering their personal agendas at the cost of the people of Jammu province, who are highly talented, but who are being despised by the vested interests. Anyway, the opposition of the people of Jammu to Prof Mattoo is understandable.
But no one had ever imagined that Prof Mattoo is so unpopular among the Kashmiri Pandits. That he is so unpopular in his own community became clear when his opponents started responding to an article that appeared on April 28 on one of the leading websites of the country http://www.vijayvanni.com. The said article was a reflection on the credentials of Prof Mattoo and the responses of the readers constituted a vindication of what the Early Times had written on the issue.
It would be only desirable to reproduce here these responses that would enable the distinguished readers of the Early Times to form an opinion on Prof Mattoo and vindicate the Early Times' objective stand. The responses are:-
"This is outrageous…(The authorities) are imposing a saboteur as Vice-Chancellor of Central University Jammu also…But how come the National Conference allows a sworn PDP man to be at such an important position" (Shikha Sharma, April 28).
"Prof Mattoo is dying to come to Jammu as he has unfinished agenda of liquidating the nationalist Dogra and Kashmiri Hindu races from the area (to fulfill) as these are the only impediments in handing over Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan on a platter…But he will not succeed in his evil designs…" (Bharat, April 28).
"Panun Kashmir views with concern the sinister move…in appointing the proposed Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu. The move seems to (be) a deliberate design to create a wedge between nationalist forces in Jammu" (Dr Agnishekhar, Convenor Panun Kashmir, April 28).
"Dr Agnishekhar deserves kudos for coming out with such a bold reaction to the move to bring an internal saboteur to Jammu and destablise entire State of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Mattoo is a well-known ideologue of the separatist camp and this is probably the last stand that nationalist forces can take against the nefarious designs to dismember the country yet again, beginning with Jammu and Kashmir" (Hinduputra, April 28).
"Amitabh Mattoo is on the mission to bring bad name to the Kashmiri Pandit community by getting involved with the separatists …who are hell bent to dismember India. He is facilitating the complete genocide of Kashmiri Pandits by being hand in glove with separatists…who have reduced Kashmiri Pandits to stateless and landless people. He should be excommunicated (from the community) by the Kashmiri Pandits. He is trying to sabotage the genuine HOMELAND demand of Kashmiri Pandits. He is the enemy of Kashmiri Pandits. He is a separatist in the guise of a Kashmiri Pandit" (Rajinder Ambardar, April 28).
"If Amitabh Mattoo is the real Kashmiri Pandit, then he should openly support the homeland demand for the Kashmiri Pandits. If he does not, then it will prove beyond doubt that he is a fifth columnist and traitor" (Amit Dhar, April 28).
"Amitabh Mattoo is a traitor par excellence" (Shivani Raina, April 28).
"…Prof Amitabh Mattoo is also working for Pakistan or America…" (Harish Kumar, April 28).
"Kudoes to (the writer) for exposing the truth. This modern day Jai Chand should not be made the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University. His earlier tenure in Jammu University is quite questionable. The government should check him for his activities rather than allowing him all the leverage to carry on the agenda of separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. He presents himself as a statesman trying to do everything but his pro-Pakistan love is clear from the self-rule, other documents and his writings in the media. He should feel free to go and settle in Pakistan. The traitor and Jai Chand should understand that Jammu and Kashmir is India now and always. The government yesterday caught an espionage racket in which Indian nationals (read Madhuri Gupta and others) were working against our country's interests in Pakistan than how come Mattoo whose utterings (sick) just stab Indian unity, integrity and sovereignty is being allowed to carry on the separatist agenda. Prime Minister, India is your country…" (Arvind, April 28). (To be continued).
