IMPA organises training prog on watershed development

JAMMU, May 7: National Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme under State Training Action Plan (STAP) on "Implementation of Watershed Development Programme under New Common Guidelines" was organized by J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPA) here tod-ay. The training programme was conducted in collaboration with Centre for Water and Land Man-agement (CWLM), National Institute of Rural Deve-lopment (NIRD), Hyderbad under the coordination ship of Dr. Reva Sharma, Associate Professor, Rural Development J&K IMPA.
On the inaugural day, soon after welcoming the participants on behalf of the Director General J&K IMPA, Abdul Hamid, (IAS) Mrs. Sharma reiterated that Watershed has been adopted as an approach for conservation, development and utilization of natural resources particularly of land and water in a sustainable manner for overall ecological and economical development of an area. The present approach lays stress on effective planning, implementation and maintenance of assets and infrastructure created by Watershed Committees, User and Self Help Groups under the guidance of Project Implementing Agency (PIA). The role and capacity building of PIA and WDT members on one hand and people's Institutions on the other hand is of prime importance in this programme, she added.The programme was attended by 28 officers of the rank of Pos from Rural Development Department, officers from Agriculture, IWDP and Forest Department associated with the implementation of the programme in the State. Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by Prof. S. S. P. Sharma, Head f the Department of CWLM, NIRD Hyderabad, his team comprising of Dr. D. Bidari and U. H. Hemant Kumar from NIRD, Hyderabad. Resource person, Dr. V. S. Charak, Spoke on various subjects like New Common Guidelines, Conservation practices in Watershed and Poverty
