| Sukhnandan alleges ministers misusing public exchequer | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 8: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Marh Constituency Chou-dhary Sukhnandan has alleged that state government is non-serious towards the problems being faced by the farmers in Jammu province. He said in these days of sowing of crops, there is acute shortage of fertilizers in whole Jammu province. The government agencies like JAKFED and Agro-Industries have totally failed to discharge their duties. Not only this, the poor farmers are also deprived of electricity supply. There have been long power cuts in the rural areas. Despite repeated representations, no effective steps have been taken to mitigate the sufferings of the farmers. Sukhnandan, who was addressing the media persons alongwith BJP Kissan Morcha State President Karan Singh at party headquarters, also took the coalition to task for its failure to check the misuse of public exchequer. He said, "Since the NC-Congress coalition government has categorically mentioned in recently concluded Budget session that they have no money to meet the long pending demands of the employees including 6th pay commission arrears, but it has been in official records that the state government has spent crores of rupees on renovation/repairs of ministerial houses, both in Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Elaborating his accusations, the BJP MLA said that the present coalition has been repeatedly making misleading claims of financial crunch when it comes for release of funds for even erecting a pole or digging a well for the use of general public. He said the information available with him is enough to expose how brutally this coalition is misusing the public money for the luxuries of its ministers. Giving details, Sukhnandan said that rupees 264.34 lakhs have been spent on renovation/repairs of ministerial houses in Kashmir and rupees 91.63 lakhs in Jammu during the year 2008-2009. Similarly, rupees 80.82 lakhs have been spent on purchase of furniture/furnishing in Kashmir and Rs 31.20 lakhs for same purpose in Jammu. MLA said that the minister for whom maximum expenditure incurred on furniture/furnishing items including TVs, Fridges, Vaccum cleaners and blowers worth Rs 26.83 lacs has been incurred is the state's Finance Minister himself, who has been talking of funds paucity every now and then. He demanded a thorough inquiry to look into the account heads from where these amounts have been diverted.
