| Court directs DD director to probe a defamation plea | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 8: A lower court has directed Jammu doordarshan director to hold a thorough probe into a defamation case filed against deputy director (news) Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, and submit a detailed report within a month.The court directive came today in a petition filed by Dr Javed Rahi, Gojri chief editor in the academy of art, culture and languages.Rahi filed a efamation case on April 4 in the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Jammu, under Section 500 of RPC against Gurjeet Kour Malik, deputy director Radio Kashmir Srinagar. In the complaint, bsequently transferred by the CJM to the court of special mobile magistrate electricity, Jammu, it was abmitted that on March 25, 2010, the complainant was shocked and surprised over the circulation of a malicious letter allegedly written by the accused on February 18, 2010. The letter was also addressed to the Chief minister.He said that certain baseless, malicious and defamatory allegations were levelled by the accused against the complainant in the letter, also circulated in academy office with a malicious intent.The accused also addressed the letter to the academy secretary, tarnishing his reputation, he added.He prayed that "action be taken against the accused for defaming his reputation". Judge R N Watal, after going through the complaint and hearing the counsel for complainant, observed that the allegations in the complaint were of serious nature and required a thorough probe.He ordered the Jammu doordarshan director to hold a thorough inquiry into the matter and submit report within a month from the day order was announced. The court fixed May 31 as the date for next hearing.
