Why traffic system is not getting streamlined: Munish
5/8/2010 11:05:12 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 8: The BJYM State President Munish Sharma today appealed the people of city of temples to awaken and contribute their might in streamlining the traffic menace in winter capital of the state.
In view of the failure of the authorities despite repeated pleas by the citizens to ensure better traffic system in the ever growing city of temples, the time has come when people have to put in their own efforts to regulate the traffic system in order to give a better impression to the tourists and pilgrims coming to Jammu form different parts of the country, Sharma said in a statement here today. BJYM leader said that volunteers from his organization would offer their services in regulating the traffic system at main chowks of the city in case the Traffic Police Department is unable to streamline the system in next two weeks. Our volunteers would be provided with special caps and badges by the party as a mark of their identification for this social service. Sharma expressed hope that the conscious citizens of Jammu would also come forward in ensuring that the traffic menace is streamlined in the city. He asked the authorities to introspect, why traffic system is not getting streamlined despite co-operation by the people of the city? "Is it because of lack of will power on the part of higher authorities or a nexus of corruption at various levels", he asked.
Drawing attention of the Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon and IGP Traffic Mohd Amin Shah about the functioning of traffic police officials in the city, the BJYM leader pointed out that these officials are seen only busy in booking violators with their challan papers or negotiating with the drivers/ conductors of buses, mini buses and auto rickshaws. These traffic officials are hardly seen regulating the traffic at main chowks and at times it is the local police personnel of the area who are seen performing the duty of the traffic police. He urged the senior officials dealing with the traffic system to find for themselves as to how their own officers are contributing to this menace.
