| Chib for strengthening hands of volunteers in rural areas | | World Red Cross Day observed | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 8: To mark the 63rd birth anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Duant, founder of Red Cross movement, Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu in collaboration with Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized a function at Abhinav Theatre here today. Minister for Medical and Technical Education, R S Chib was the chief guest while Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Kathua Range, Farooq Khan presided over the function and Padam Shri Jatinder Udhampuri was the guest of honour. MLC Ravinder Sharma also attended the function. Speaking on the tremendous efforts and social services rendered by the Red Cross Society, Chib appreciated the activities of the organization and emphasized need of first aid training to the volunteers especially in the rural areas to help the suffering humanity. He said that the day is observed every year in memory of the founder of Red Cross, Sir Jean Henry Duant which is also a tribute to the great social worker. Secretary Regional Red Cross Society, Anil Kumar Padha apprised that theme of this year as realized by the International Red Cross is 'Urbanization'. Farooq Khan lauded the humanitarian task undertaken by the Red Cross Society throughout the world. On the occasion, colourful cultural programme depicting the services and message of Red Cross Society was presented by the students of Lawrence Public School, Delhi Public School and Blooming Day Public School by singing "Jai Ho" and "Vande Matram" which were highly appreciated by the audience. A special presentation was also made by the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Bantalab based on Women Empow-erment written and directed by Usha Shaminder, Principal of the school. Medals and certificates were given to the volunteers whereas mementos were presented to the dignitaries. Later, RS Chib also attended the World Thalassemia Day and World Asthma Day function as a Chief Guest organized by the Department of Paediatrics, Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu at SMGS Hospital here today. Speaking on the occasion, Chib said that 10 percent population of the country is affected with Asthma and the need of the hour is to provide regular treatment to the ailing persons for curbing the extent of this disease. He said that awareness camps should be organized to educate the people especially rural, backward and hilly populace. He said that all the members of Associated Hospitals are making efforts to cure these diseases. He said that preventive measures should be taken timely. Meanwhile to commemorate the birth anniversary of founder of 'Red Cross Movement, Sir, Jean Henary Durrant, a colorful programme was held at Red Cross Baan, Kachi chowni here today. Speaking on the occasion, Dy. Commissioner cum chairman red. Cross society who was the chief guest signifies both in peace and crisis. He assured that all the possible help will be provided to the needy at their doorsteps. He also emphasized on the co-ordination of different department such as school education and social welfare departments to achieve minimum result as far as red-cross activities a concerned. Earlier, a flag hoisting ceremony was held in the lawns of red-cross Bhawan of the chief gust, among others present on the occasion were director school education. Zahida Khan, Chief education officer, Suresh Kumar Sharma, Nath Ram Daugra, Jugal Mahayar and Dinesh Gupta. A cultural programme was presented by the students of Jagrtit Niketan Hr. Sec. School. A symposium was also held in the auditorium hall of Red Cross in which a number of students from Govt. Institutions participated, and prizes were also given to first three winners. A colorful skit was presented by the students of J.K.Public School highlighting the need of Red Cross in present situation. On this occasion director School Education Jammu assured that all sorts of co-operation will be provided to the Red Cross from education Department.
