EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 9: Asserting the frequent 'bandhs' and 'hartals' cost the trading community in Jammu, Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI), Jammu said no shutdown will be observed by trading community unless and until it has been endorsed by CCI.
Announcing this in a press conference here today, Y V Sharma, president, CCI-Jammu said, "For the past some time civil society of Jammu in general and CCI-J in particular has been finding itself at cross roads for frequent bandhs and strike calls by elements having scant regards to the miseries and hardships likely to be inflicted upon hapless citizens and financial damages to the state economy". "Since the frequent bandh and hartal costs the trading community badly particularly small traders, pilgrims, labourers, CCI-J recently in a meeting has decided that trading community will not participate in the bandh till the organizers approach the CCI-J at least seven days in advance to enable the Chamber to deliberate upon the issue", Sharma categorically said. Sharma said, "It has unanimously been resolved in the meeting that hence forth, no hartal or bandh will be observed by the trading community unless and until it has been endorsed by Chamber of Commerce and Industry through a proper channel".
CCI-J president said, "It was felt that even if the issue deserves a token strike or bandh it should be resorted to only as a last resort when all other avenues for redressal of the problem had been exhausted".
The entire team of CCI-J accompanied president Y V Sharma during the media interaction.
