| Dialogue should not be hostage to terrorist acts: Vakil | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 9: India and Pakistan should move towards a common agenda to control menace of terrorism and the terrorists should not be allowed to hold hostage any ongoing peace negotiations between the two countries, said Congress MLC and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil. Addressing a political convention at Sopore today, Vakil said that reconciliation and peace initiatives started after formation of central government in the state is an irreversible process and there is no alternative to this process. He added that dialogue is only way to solve all problems and there is need to accelerate the initiatives for peace building and resumption of dialogue. Vakil welcomed the decisions taken at Thimphu by leaderships of both India and Pakistan. He further emphasized on the need to carry forward the peace initiatives and to expand cross-LoC cooperation in Jammu and Kashmir. "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chairperson Madam Sonia Gandhi are both serious towards resolving the region's problems since peace is in the interests of people of Jammu and Kashmir," said the congress leader. He said that in no case, congress would compromise with anyone over the progress and development of the state. Vakil further said that Chief Minister should initiate time-bound inquiry into the assets of MLAs, MLCs, Ministers and MPs who have grown overnight rich. "I would continue to raise my voice against corrupt politicians of present and previous regimes. Government has to cleanse the system of rot and leave the 'wait and watch policy'. Act today to save your future," Vakil reiterated. He complimented former Chief Minister.Ghulam Nabi Azad for brining an act to take to task the corrupt and inefficient officers and ministers.
