JAMMU, May 9: J&K Progressive RTI Forum (JKPRTIF) has taken a strong exception of the manner in which State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has carried out raids in premises of a Revenue Official and an Executive Engineer in Jammu and the way follow up action has been taken.
It is mere eyewash to ransom huge amount of money from the officials in vigilance net.
First of all the SVO has undervalued the assets wherein value of a banquet hall worth Rs 2 crore and a house worth Rs 4 crore at Srinagar airport has respectively been put at Rs 50 Lakh and Rs 40 Lakh respectively.
In total the property owned by the Tehsildar Jammu is to the tune of Rs 45 to 50 crores by conservative estimates, including hundreds of kanals of land and buildings under benami.
Similarly the property of Executive Engneer amounts to Rs 25 crores and the SVO has valued it upto one crore. The fact is known to every citizen of Jammu.
The entire process of raid is malafide since the Tehsildar Jammu was not taken into custody for carrying out further investigations and unearthing the property of the official elsewhere, instead the SVO let him go scot free and provided opportunity to exert political pressure while as settling the case in a big deal wherein money is supposed to have exchanged hands between the accused corrupt tehsildar and some SVO officials. It is pertinent to mention here that a senior IAS officer Ajeet Kumar was immediately taken into custody for alleged involvement in a very small case but the Tehsildar who has secured the job by fraudulent means and amassed property worth Rs 50 crores was let go.
Any investigation agency will not allow the accused in disproportionate assets case to roam free, to hide his properties and muster the support of political bosses. Recently in Madhya Pradesh one IAS officer was arrested as he possessed Rs 25 Lakh from unknown sources of income but the mighty and all powerful Tehsildar Jammu was not even touched even when the SVO itself has put the value of property at Rs 4 crore apart from the palatial bungalows yet to be assessed. What an irony it is that the SVO has to bow before a tehsildar given the letters money power and political clout. If one visits the website of SVO ample cases can be seen where petty officials like watchers in forest protection, peons in education, class IV employees etc have been arrested for alleged graft ranging Rs 500 to 5000 and challans have been produced, arrests made and charge sheets filed in such petty cases. But ironically in such big cases the SVO flexes its backbone to bow before money and political power.
The PRTI Forum Jammu and Kashmir strongly urges upon the Chief Minister to direct SVO not to indulge in giving free hand to such criminal officials and take stringent action against Tehsildar Jammu who even managed his promotion from the post of Patwari to Tehsildar in just one month using fake degrees, money and political clout, while young KAS officers are posted on useless and defunct posts this Patwari was made to handle the all important post of Tehsildar Jammu.
