| Medhavi’s adjudged best in Painting Contest on Environment | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, May 9: To educate the young students about their concern for protecting the environment for sustenance of life on this planet, the Udhampur-Reasi range Police and Civil Defence organization Udhampur jointly organized an inter school painting contest in the premises of Shivalik College of Education Udhampur today. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi range, Gulzar Singh Slathia was the chief guest on the occasion while Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Surinder Gupta presided over the function. As many as 100 students drawn from 25 educational institutions participated in the painting contest with passionate zeal which was held in two categories (Middle & Secondary levels ). They were asked to portray their creative expression on the subjects viz Save Environment, Stop Pollution and Save Energy. In Secondary level, Miss Medhavi Sharma of Army Public School Udhampur secured first position while as second and third positions were given to Asif Amba of Prashant Public High school and Miss Sheetal of Army Public School respectively. Similarly, Rahul Bargal of Happy Model Hr. Secondary School, Bhagisha Kundal of Little Flower Convent School and Preetika Slathia of Army Public School Udhampur clinched first , second and third positions respectively in middle level. Consolation prizes to the meritorious students of each category were also given. In his address, Slathia lauded the creative endeavors of budding artists said that co-curricular activities like arts, cultural and sports enable them to exhibit their decent ideas for creating a healthy society. He said that the effort of Police and Civil Defence organization would go a long way in tackling the day to day emerging challenging problem of global warming and ecological balance which further would prove helpful in managing the environmental crises. DIG further said that more such events would be organized in future also to chanelize the creative energies of youth in a right perspective so that they could understand the basic consequences of degrading environment. SSP while speaking on the occasion, stressed the need for organizing more such programme to aware the young generation about the different issues directly concerned to our environment like global warming, water conservation, pollution, energy crises etc so that ways and means could be sorted out to build a healthy surroundings. Noted painter of the state, Rohit Verma adjudged the contest along with SP City, Rajeswar Singh, District Information Officer, Dr. Jagdish Mehra, and Range Forest Officer, Lalit Mangotra.
