Simula to face RDCC in Sodhi Memorial T20 final today

JAMMU, May 9: Simula Cricket Club shall take on Rohit Dogra Cricket Club (RDCC) in the final of the ongoing 2nd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament at Parade ground, here tomorrow.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Simula defeated Moha-mmadan Sporting Cricket Club by two runs while Rohit Dogra Cricket Club registered a big 92 runs win over New Millennium Cricket Club today.
As per the organizing committee, the final shall start at 1 pm, followed by the prize distribution function, scheduled to take place at 5 pm. In the final and prize distribution function, Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is also president of J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) has consented to be the chief guest. Minister for Sports, Technical and Medical Education, R S Chib shall be guest of honour in the valedictory function.
Narrow escape for Simula
Simula Cricket Club (SCC) today had a narrow escape on way to the final.
The star studded side underwent tremendous pressure before they salvaged a two-run victory over Mohammadan Sporting Cricket Club (MSCC).
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Simula built a respectable score of 161 runs losing nine wickets, which they found difficult to defend and could make it a win only in the last 20th over by restricting MSCC to 159 for nine.
Shashi was top scorer with 47-ball 58 runs including ten hits to the fence, followed by fine innings from Dhruv Mahajan (23), Randeep (16 off 7 balls) and Prince (18 not out).
From MSCC, Naresh and Jimmy took two wickets each.
Batting second, MSCC, played equally well and were proceeding well towards the target but the luck did not favour them.
The MSCC exhausted their quota of 20 overs just two runs short of the opponent total at 159 with one wicket in hand.
Sunny played superb innings of 43 runs coming off only 25 balls with the help of seven boundaries and two hits over the fence. Jimmy and Farooq also added valuable 23 and 17 runs to the total. Jimmy (Munna) playing a pinching knock contributing 13-ball 29 runs, including three sixes, but could not lead his side to victory. Shashi bowled a fine spell taking away four wickets for 21 runs in four overs for Simula. Prince bagged two wickets.
For his match winning performance, Shashi was declared man of the match.
Sagar, Raman script RDCC win
Fine batting by Sagar and scintillating performance from Raman Dutta, who took four wickets for 15 runs, today guided Rohit Dogra Cricket Club (RDCC) to a big 92 runs victory over New Millenium Cricket Club (NMCC) to reach the final.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, RDCC set a mammoth total of 203 runs for six, which, in reply, NMCC could not chase and bowled out for 111 runs in 19.5 overs.
Sagar was top scorer with 33-ball 58 runs including 11 boundaries and a six while Munish also made equally good contributions of 33-ball 51 runs. Sahil Bhalwal made 43 runs facing 29 deliveries while Amit Baloria and Vijay Dogra (not out) added 14 runs each. From NMCC, Varinder, Shahid and Parves took one wicket each.
Batting second, NMCC lost all their wickets for 111 runs in 19.5 overs. Sunil Bali made highest 41 (off 29 balls) runs hitting two sixes and four boundaries.
Jamsheed and Varun Puri were other main contributors with 20 runs each. Raman Dutta bowled match winning spell of four for 15 in four overs.
Anoop Mangotra and Vijay Dogra also did a good job and took away two wickets each.
For his four wickets haul, Raman Dutta was declared man of the match.
