5/9/2010 11:36:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 9: Displaying flying skills, two Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots Saturday picked up a critically injured police cop from a rooftop at Khour near Ladh in Mahore, Reasi, and airlifted him here for his advanced medical treatment.
Selection grade cop Kakka Ram was wounded seriously in a gunbattle in which two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in Khour nullah yesterday. An IAF Cheetah helicopter was rushed to the encounter site to airlift Kakka Ram to Jammu.Due to the fading light and step-farming in the area, the chopper could not make a landing, official sources said. “Facing difficulties, chopper’s Captain, Wing Commander S Chaturvedi decided to hover over the roof of an abandoned house while co-pilot, Squadron Leader H S Cheema skillfully slithered down to pick up the injured, the sources added. From there, the chopper flew to Jammu and the injured constable was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital. Sources said had there been a delay in airlifting the injured to Jammu, he could have died due to excessive bleeding.
