5/10/2010 12:18:26 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 9: It was an 'unpleasant encounter' the political dignitaries would not have expected to face in the thick of an invited crowd of guests, many of them prominent people. Three Congress Ministers who inaugurated exhibition organised by the renowned sculptor Ravinder Jamwal in his native village of Birpur today faced few embarrassing moments at the end of the function as senior citizens stumped them all and showed them the mirror exposing hollow promises made by them from time to time.
Soon after the three Congress ministers inlcuding Higher Medical Education RS Chib, Health Minister Shyam Lal Sharma and Relief and Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla made their speeches and promised full support of the state government to artists and others pursuing such activities, a senior citizen of village Birpur brought to the notice of the senior Congress ministers that despite making several requests and endless visits to the corridors of power none of the promises were fulfilled by the leaders at the helm.
Lambasting the local MLA, the villagers alleged that none of the public representative had ever bothered to visit them and bothered to ask them about their genuine problems.
Without caring for any reprimand or action for mustering courage to 'expose' the politicians for their hollow promises, the senior citizen in the presence of several prominent citizens, artists, writers produced record of documents according to which a dispensary was supposed to be sanctioned for the village but till date no progress was made in this regard.
Seeking attention of the sitting Health Minister the local villagers made a passionate appeal to them to fulfill their long pending demand in the interest of the local masses.
In addition the village elder attracting attention of the Revenue Minister claimed that the 36 kanals of land meant for school ground in the village has been targeted by the land sharks and gradually they are encroaching upon the land. Urging the Revenue Minister to take control of the said land and free it from the clutches of the land grabbers. Among other demands the villagers raised the issue of play ground for youth as well and sought attention of the sports minister present on the occasion.
Taking serious note of the allegations and half cooked promises Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla gave clear cut instructions to the senior police and district administration, in the presence of DC Samba Sourav Bhagat and SSP Raghubir Singh to prepare a status report and report the matter to the Revenue department immediately.
On the question of setting up of dispensary the Congress minister instructed director health services Dr Jasbir Singh to prepare the proposal for the requisite sanction
